The profile might be failing to stick across boot because either
1) something in the profile is causing trouble
or
2) something is wrong with the display device's registration
Symptoms of the latter might be:
1) other profiles also fail to stick across boot
2) the Apple Display Calibrator doesn't work
3) the display device doesn't appear in the Devices pane of
ColorSync Utility
Send me a copy of the profile if you would like me to take a look.

I have some problem that could not solve, there is a Mac run OS10.3.x
which cannot remember last monitor profile. Every times when shutdown
or sleep, I have to going to Display Preference to select profile
again. Just to add on what is wrong with this OS, I think it do not
load Gamma table and White point of the profile. In Display
Preference, the profile name is there but I have to re-click it to
reactivate the Gamma table and White Point.
Do you aware of this problem? How to fix it?
What profiling software are you using? This reminds me of a problem I
was
having with ICC Display (now BasICColor Display) a while back where it
was
generating (I believe) 16 bit profiles which were in turn being
rejected
by ColorSync at startup (something to do with the ColorSync cache). The
solution was to make sure their profile loader was actually launching
at
startup.
Are you using something other than the default profile size? I'm
shooting
in the dark here, but you never know!
Good luck...
