Thanks for the responses. We too have been using a 9600 with ImagePrint
for the past 12 months which although prints beautifully, is both slow
(not a real problem) but is only 44" wide - major problem. We have used
Roland printers for 5 years now and have to say our experience with
both the equipment and the service of Roland here in Australia has been
faultless. We have a constant demand for canvas prints 54" wide and
beyond hence our move to buying a new 64" printer. On a related issue
what is disturbing is that our enquiries to Colorbyte re support for
the latest Roland printers has led to the response from Colorbyte that
says effectively that 'Roland is moving away from the Photographic and
Fine Art printing and concentrating on the sign market'. Whilst I can
see that Roland are certainly trying to meet the needs of the sign
market, I cannot see how that point can be extended to the fact that
they are suddenly unsuitable for high quality, reliable digital
printing. We like ImagePrint as a RIP but seriously wonder at the logic
of not supporting what we think is the best printer over 44" for our
needs. Not knowing first hand what, if anything is going on between
Roland and Colorbyte in the US I would have to say that for ourselves
and I would assume be a number of other companies around the world that
want to run both Epson and Roland printers with the same great RIP
either now or in the future that the small(ish) effort to write drivers
for the new machines would be worth it in the long run. I realise this
is probably not the right place for a rant like this but I suppose I'm
just desperate for my needs to be met and it just flowed out it my
response.
Thanks
