Thanks, gariba.
I was wondering the same thing, especially now that some retailers have
reduced the prices on the discontinued plastic-clad Apple Cinema Displays.
Unless anyone had the chance to give the new displays a thorough workout
at WWDC, we'll probably have to wait until later this month to hear how
they stack up against the older ACDs and other high-end LCDs (like Eizo's
ColorEdge models) for color-critical work. The new 20" and 23" ACDs are
listed to ship in 2-4 weeks on the Apple Store website, and the Westfarms
Apple Store in Connecticut has yet to receive any to put on display.
As for the specs, here's what changed:
20" ACD
Brightness increased from 230 cd/m2 to 250 cd/m2 with the new model
Contrast ratio changed from 350:1 to 400:1
Response time is 16ms (not reported by Apple for the older model)
23" HD ACD
Brightness increased from 200 cd/m2 to 270 cd/m2
Contrast ratio changed from 350:1 to 400:1
Response time is 16ms (not reported by Apple for the older model)
The new ACD models, like the old ones, have only a brightness control on
the display. I'm not certain what additional settings can be changed from
OS X's display control panel, but I believe they're not as comprehensive
as the settings that can be adjusted on Eizo's ColorEdge models (contrast,
brightness, temperature, gamma, saturation, hue, and gain among others).
I'd love to hear from anyone who's had the chance to see them at WWDC and
size them up.
Cheers,
Steve
