It's true. No (intended) effect on the RIP.
But it would just be nice for those hopefully infrequent occasions in
mid-process when someone needs to opens the pdf after the matching to check
something. If the profile is imbedded, the view in Acrobat is likely to be
more predictive of what they're about to get from the printer.
But this would be an added feature, not a deal-breaker.<
Tom, you DO have the option (check box) to 'use emedded profiles' (or not)
and 'embed destination profile' (or not). To make sure things are working as
expected, I usually embed the destination profile while I am setting up a
queue to verify processing changes in Acrobat. Then when all is well, I
deselect embed destination profile, for the Rips sake. But you surely can
leave it there for other uses. My praise of the product is not a corporate
thing, but the realization that life has been MUCH easier with it than
without it (see, I didn't even mention its' name <smile>).
Fortunately, for me, I have not had to process any 400 page PDFs but If I
did, I'd make sure my workflow had process control written all over it. And
if I even THOUGHT the Color Server would give me any problems, I'd use
something like 'Split and Merge' by Arts, which is amazingly fast, and break
the PDF down into manageable chunks, process, then recombine. At the very
least, if something were amiss in the file it would be easier to track it
down.

Ps. As to any other games in town.that, I don't know. You know maybe Gretag
decided to stop development on the MAC side, only. Because the last update
on the PC had new features like a new PDF Engine, new PS Engine, support for
CxF files (ColorPicker), 8-bit Control Strips in PDFs, separate gradation
corrections for images and Graphics, some JPEG compression stuff (I don't
use JPEG). This in addition to a list of bug fixes. For me, this was
DEFINITELY an upgrade.
