You are 1000% right, linearization is paramount. When I look at the
distribution of the measured patches in a 3D space or 2D gamut slices, with
a profiling utility or a package PrintOpen, it is plain to see whether the
profile will have an easy time doing its job or I'll get crummy matches.

Yes, it's all about linearization. I wonder how I could linearize an RGB
printer? BEST ColorProof RIPs have broouht the art of linearization close to
perfection but what can be done for lowly Epson 2200 and the likes that are
driven through QuickDraw and OS drivers?
