Best RIP: designer or photo edition

In a few days an Epson 4000 is going to land on our doorstep, to be used
for both photo printing and proofing.
I've been looking at an affordable RIP to add to it, and ended up with
Best as the 'best' candidate (also looked at Proofmaster, but it would
become too expensive for the 4000).
I've seen some references on this list that the Photo Edition is better
to buy than the Designer Edition because of its RGB support. What I
couldn't find anywhere though, is a good outline of the differences
between these two versions. I tried the Best website, I looked at the
manuals, but I'm still fuzzy.
There are undoubtedly also things that the Designer edition can do, that
the Photo edition can't. Could anyone help me out with getting a decent
grasp of the differences between the two?
Thanks!
Wim
