Right. Which is expressly what PDF/X-1a is not designed for. It is not
a repurposing format, it prescribes a normalized early binding
approach. If it turns out that the output conditions are not as
intended when the PDF was produced, the best method is to go back to
original files and reseparate. However, more sophisticated color
management implementation, such as the use of DeviceLink profiles or
better technology, could bring a more efficient repurposing solution
even if that was not the original idea behind the PDF/X-1a
OutputIntent.
