Endpoint targeting.
Endpoint targeting.

When I first posted this question inside another thread,( Who's right ?) I was
unaware that the author of the reference I was querying was also a contributor
to this list . Since the response I received here and elsewhere was for the
most part unaware of the idea of shadow and highlight targeting I am
posting it again here on its own thread in hopes of soliciting comment from
him.
By endpoint targeting I meant, using the levels eyedroppers to set the black
and white points of a file to match the maximum shadow and minimum highlight
limits of an output device. This is described in detail In Fraser/Blatner
Real World Photoshop 7. I was intrigued why the co-author of Colour Management
Fraser/Murphy would recommend "always using black point compensation" and
then go on to describe a technique for accurately mapping of black and white
to the maximum shadow and minimum highlight points of the output device This
seemed to me to be an admission that the CMS has not perfectly accomplished
this.
Any feedback at all will be greatly appreciated , either here, on in your next
publication which I am certainly going to buy.
Thank you
Paul lowry (lagado)
