Manage a CMYK Postscript device?
We at AZTEK authored our own application to pipe through ICM 2 rendered
image files where we would declare the source and destination profiles and
redering intents. We have organized it for RGB to CMYK, RGB to RGB, RGB to
Lab, RGB to Gray with 1,3 and 4 channels with 8 and 16 bits per channel. It
all works well.
There are no ICM 2 performance issues needed to accomplish RGB to CMYK.
However there are many application development issues regarding the details
of implimementing accurate color management software. Also we at AZTEK
found that various Microsoft service packs, developer distributions and OS
releases that the needed color management dlls change. For example some are
even GRB while others are RGB. So we have distributed with our AZTEK color
management application software the installation of the most recent MS dlls
just to make sure there is consistancy from one client Windows installation
to the next.
As another note the conversation about applying Profiles before or after
Ripping is an application specific discussion not a technology one. It is
not technologicly necessary to apply the profile before rendering the bit
map.
