[Freeware useful for teaching]

One idea might be a Demo-version, the other is teaching the basics
without creating a profile, by doin' a calibration "by hand" like
described in a document from Mark D. Fairchild:

A simple printer calibration technique for "good enough"
color reproduction of CRT images

You'll find it somewhere in on the sites of the RIT/Munsell homepage.
