This one is raising a red flag for me. How old is this monitor and how
much has it been used? I got one of the last of these monitors, maybe 6
months before Apple discontinued them. I just went and checked and the
manufacturer date stamp on it is February 1998. That's a 6 year old
monitor. So I'd venture that your monitor is probably at least 5 years
old, unless it just hasn't been used all that much.

Also, these monitors needed an ADB connection to do calibration, and
the software only existed on OS 9 and earlier. The G4 is USB. How are
you calibrating this monitor?

Anyway, it's very possible that images look less saturated, less bright
and with less contrast than they ought to. What you might need is a new
monitor.

Chris,

I've got a 21" Studio Display on one of my workstations at the office... unsure of the date, and it's not used for color-critical work, but it calibrates via USB (has a 4-port hub built in as well), there's no ADB whatsoever, and even Panther still supports the calibration routines for this display as well as OS9 did. Sounds like he's using a newer model like this, not the previous ADB models. There was also at least one later line, with the transparent case (mine is the gray/white design reminiscent of the first-gen G4s).

FWIW, the display still looks great... it's the massive EM shield I have around it that stinks (looks like a bad job armoring it with leftover sheet metal). Though, again, it's not used for production.

Unsure of the data because of the shield (it's a pain to move), but I don't think it's from 1998 (though it could be, but it was brand new when installed in early 2001).
