Hi group.
Don't know if this fits in the parameters of the group, but someone
else may have had this happen to them already, and knows the workaround
or answer.
I am having a heck of a time with Mac OX 10.2.8, and Epson 9600 with
Hello David,
I have a 7600 and 10.28 so we are on the same page I believe. On the
printer itself "Roll Auto Cut"
should be selected even though this doesn't make sense. When you select
Print from Print Preview one
of the selections in the drop down menu is "Roll paper options" , here
is where you must decheck the
"autocut" box. This is a wholly counterintuitive situation but I got
these instructions from Epson when
I ran into difficulties and it works - go figure. I think Epson has
really been dropping the ball with its
software on the Ultrachrome printer drivers, I find it the worst
software they have ever put forth.
Another pain in the butt to look out for is if you are using roll paper
and accidentally have the printer
set for sheet paper the printer will keep spooling out paper forever
unless you hit the panic button.
This can result in very damaged paper and be very costly - inexcusable
bug if you ask me.

You are correct Eric. I have been trained the same way as you. And,
although all these settings were set the way you said, the paper was
still cut, and approximately 900 square inches of Fuji Hunt Smooth Fine
Art paper, 310 grams, was wasted, along with the ink put down on that
paper.
I had emailed Epson about the misbehavior, and Robert Stanek (I don't
know him) phoned me telling me Epson thought this was corrected with
their 10997 driver update. I did, at his request, email the system
profile of both my G3's. He will send them to Japan, and get a
response. Might be two weeks, or two months for a response from Japan.
I am concerned about the cutter blade inside the printer. It is not
meant to cut 310 gram paper, or canvas, which I frequently use.
Let's put it this way, whenever the 9600 starts cutting canvas or
smooth fine art paper, the first thought I have is the wearing down and
damaging of that internal cutter blade that Epson says in writing and
verbally, is not to be cutting these substrates.
I have the external cutter attached, for cutting these substrates.
I have been working out a solution where PS 7.01 opens in "9.2.2
classic" and using USB, I print from the rock solid Epson print driver
to the 9600. I do image preparation in PS CS and then reopen in PS
7.01.
In the perfect world, 10.2.8 and the Epson drivers would work without
error, and I would not be doing this extra step.
BTW, this failure never happened when printing from my G3 PowerBook.
Just happened with the Blue and White G3.
Cheers
