This is a cross post.
Until now, I believed that printing an image from either InDesign CS or
Photoshop CS to my printer would result in the same results but I am having
second thoughts? If anyone could replicate the following findings I think
I9d submit a bug report to Adobe.
1. Start in IDCS from a new Lab color swatch. Define it as 39.21 -11.00
14.00 (yes, IDCS accepts fractional Lab values!)
2. Fill some kind of square object with this swatch value
3. Set your ConversionOptions to RelCol with/BPC so that, in principle, the
solid Lab swatch color should convert RelCol when converted to CMYK.
Set Working CMYK as USWebCoatedSWOP v2.
4. Print with Source = Proof : Document CMYK (defined as US WebCoated SWOP)
PrintSpace = YourFavoriteInkjet, AbsCol
IDCS should convert from Lab to USWebCoatedSWOP v2, RelCol w/BPC and then
from USWebCoatedSWOPv2 to YourFavoriteInkjet, AbsCol.
Note your result.
Now, go into Photoshop CS, make a new Lab document. Fill it with the same
swatch value, 39 -11 14, and ConvertToProfile to USWebCoatedSWOP v2, RelCol
then ConvertToProfile from USWebCoatedSWOPv2 to YourFavoriteInkjet, AbsCol.
Note your result.
-----
When I use MyFavoriteInkjet custom profile, I get two slightly different
sets of results depending on which workflow I follow :
From IDCS, my inkjet receives 62 55 75 21 whilst manually converting through
the same profiles in Photoshop CS yields 62 55 73 18. Spot on for cyan and
magenta but no cigar for yellow and black?
If anyone wants to have MyFavoriteInkjet custom profile please contact me
offlist.
