I dont have the answer but have more questions.
I posted a message here earlier, but never saw it appear and there was
no response,
so I hope I'm not making a pest of myself, but will try again.
I'm a photographer and I have no trouble with a color managed digital
workflow from digital Capture or scanned film to a predictable print or
4/color process and I have been doing it for a dozen years or so.
However, i cant get any of my monitors to match each other using
hardware and software calibration devices.
Actually I'm under the impression that (especially since I am not a
separator / printer) I'm better off using native gamma and white point
and generating just a profile to be used throughout color management.
This way the displays aren't forced and I get a better distribution of
tones and avoid banding etc. I do make a concerted effort to have
viewing conditions surrounding the displays neutral and to have color
corrected lighting to view prints and proofs.
I'm under the impression that our eyes and mind will adjust to a
recognizable tone like white or grey in an instant and therefore
monitors do not need to match exactly unless they are seen together at
the same time.
If you dont see them at the same time, once you turn to see the other
display with the same image one has already corrected for this in one's
brains color management system.
According to this theory - looking from one monitor to another that
actually are an exact match would change in our perception if the
surrounding area of the monitors are different. As an example, say one
monitor is against a grey painted wall and the other say 90deg turn of
your head is against a wood panel.
Now when you turn from one to the other they would appear showing
different colors. ?
... and a display can only be a fair approximation of the colors and
gamut of the image file anyway.
am I right about this ?

Hello. I am an avid reader of this forum. I have two Lacie monitors.
One on a G5 and one on a G4. I am using Monaco Optics to calibrate
them.
I have calibrated a million times and I still cannot get the color to
mach on the two. One is warmer than the other. I know this is one of
the most frequently
asked questions, but I just can't get it to work. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
