Hi Roger

I am not to familiar with the SWOP Standard, as well TR001 (there was a threat about that 2 Month ago).
Can you tell me what this standard says?

Which printerprofiles are you using in Canada or the US to proof? Does every printer supply its own profile?
As Xabier wrote: even they put BIG effort in the whole scenario, there are a lot of variants in a printing process that can change the resulting color appearance.
How good are future prints of those printers compared to these profiles?

I found that that the dotgain and the gray ballance has a major influence on the resulting colors. I also found that a lot of printers (here in Europe) are not aware of this fact and can not even tell me what their dotgain is.

Probably not all that much, to my knowledge. All least not in the eastern
part of Canada where I'm located. If I mention SWOP to printers I deal with
I usually get a reaction. But if mention ISO-12647 I loose them.

Is there any standardized profile available? i would like to compare it to the ISO standard.

The only big difference I see at the moment is the dotgain. Here in Austria/Germany we merely use positive plates that results in a dotgain of about 13% average (based on prints done linear plates), whereas from my knowledge you use negative plates that result in higher dotgains (around 18 to 20%).
The CMYK inks we use are according to ISO 2846-1 (ISO for ink manufacturers). Are there also aim values and tolerances for CMYK inks you are using?

Mit frkundlichen gru_en,

very good, almost correct

mit freundlichen Gr|_en/cheers

Peter
