No, there is no conversion going on from the the embedded sRGB tagged in the
image. You're essentially telling Photoshop to ignore the embedded sRGB
profile. So the only alternative for Photoshop is to resort to the current
RGB workng space to interpret the image data colorimetrically.

Yes, instead of interpreting the image RGB data through whathever RGB
working space you might have it set before it instead uses the monitor
profile for interpretation.

Glad that's how it is.

Yes. But no one knows what Preview or iPhoto is doing to the image? At
least, I don't personally know those details. I think Chris Murphy has spent
a lot of time on this issue and if you search the recent archives you should
find his comments on this issue.

Im not sure that Im happy with this.
That's the way it is!

Aha! People have these mental images of what their colors ought to llok
like. Why don't these people start by looking at their images in Photoshop
in the first place, the most reliable source of color appearance of all
these suspicious image display software?

In truth they probably do as the camera is producing images that are too

dark to start off with??
Absolutely. I'm with you.

Phew!
Amen to that.

Im now using my monitor space as my working profile.
Why? I would never dare do such a thing and I don't advise my clients to do
it either.

Contrary to what some might say no doubt,

Regards and thanks for your time,
No sweat. Take care.
