Why wouldn't you ask for a press profile?
I guess I figured that I'd be lucky to find someone with a profile for their
proofer and that a press profile would be a bit of a stretch. I'm in
Victoria, BC, and the nearest places I've found who've even heard of CM are
on the mainland in Vancouver so I'm already getting to a point where
proofing is a pain (and expensive) geographically. I've been struggling
with:
"just send CMYK"
"OK. What CMYK"
"Not RGB"
Now I've adopted colour management in-house and I can get reliable proofs
from my Epson 1280 to send to printers, but I still can't seem to get a
profile out of any of them, so I use the Adobe-supplied generic CMYK
(sheetfed UC, etc.) profiles for soft-proofing and convert to those profiles
before sending files, but there is always variation - often unacceptable. So
my quest continues...
Thanks again to all for your input.
Matt
