The more you look at press profiles and "characterization data", you'll
find that actual gamut volume is a relatively minor issue. Typical CMYK
offset press profiles all look VERY similar as far as color gamut,
nothing like the difference you'll see with some of the standard RGB
working space profiles.
I think the better measure of how "accurate" your job will reproduce is
not color gamut but has more to do with gray balance and the chroma/hue
angles of the basic ink set. Color gamut wouldn't really tell you much
about either of these printing conditions.
IOW, color gamut isn't all it's cracked up to be. Gray balance and ink
hue is going to have a far greater influence on the outcome of your
job.
