XMP color descriptions

Bruce alluded to a possible scenario where CMYK files were delivered untagged, but described through an XMP based file info structure. There is a free program from Poundhill which allows the user to create XMP based file info panels. These could include file prep instructions, color management instructions and so forth. Additonally, the custom file info should be searchable using Photoshop and other XMP savvy applications. The only real catch I've been able to find in its implementation is that 1) it requires the use of the creative suite on both ends and 2) both the file creator and the recipient need to have the particular .txt file correctly installed for the custom file info panels to be read. So we run into the familiar problem of the file creator needing to communicate effectively with the print house receiving the file.

As XMP gains more support, this may someday become a viable alternative. The software can be found at http://www.poundhill.com
