> Care to say more about Bill system?
Using color management tools, some commonly available
(and affordable) inks, an efficient screening system
and some thirty rounds of press tests, Bill expanded
the printing gamut of a standard offset printing
system about 1.6 times.
Advantages over halftone SWOP printing are: expanded
gamut, higher resolution, less color variance, faster
make-ready, less waste and color quality that is very
close to the proof upon reaching target ink densities.
The pressman are not having to play the color correct
by ink key games. Clients may use their inkjet printer
profile and the supplied press profile to simulate the
final results off-site if desired.
VanFu is having all their presses calibrated to
operate with in this system. Their senior press
manager was impressed enough to make it a company-wide
policy.
Personally, I consider this the future of high speed
offset printing. Why not print more economically AND
with a gamut that is closer to that of an inkjet
printer? Well okay, if I was making a killing selling
proofs, retouching and press color correction to my
clients, I may not like this idea.
Unfortunately for print buyers, this would drastically
eliminate the arduous process of color correcting on
press. Press checks would take minutes, not hours or
days. (I've always been fascinated by the dynamics of
that process)
Bottom line, a real honest to goodness press profile
that you can use with your inkjet to simulate the
results on press. Get the book and show this to your
fine art clients...watch their eyes open wide as they
drink in colors that they never saw in print before.
