Ed,
Your comments remind me of the joke about the three guys in a mental
institution. The Doctor comes in and says if you want to leave this place
all you have to do is answer this question. He then asks, what is 3 Xs 8.
The first guy says Wednesday.
The second guy says 147.
The third guy says 24.
On the way out the Doctor asks the third guy how he figured it out.
He said is was easy, I took Wednesday and divided it by 147.
The point of this joke is that everyone has his or her way to get to a
solution as you have done with your workflow.
Color calibration is a hard problem to solve and if it was easy there would
be no need for color management tools and list like this.
Some folks choose to work efficiently and others choose to do it the hard
way, but remember if you go by the numbers and then use color management you
get the job done faster and with less waste.
And we all know that color management is not perfect, but it does work!
And it allows achieving and maintaining a color imaging system calibration
and color accuracy in one of the most efficient ways possible. IMHO, using
color management (or using a RIP) is just a smart business decision.
