Anybody having real world experience with BestRIP (v5) and
laserprinters (can drive Epson, HP and OKI lasers)? Use for this
combination would be "proofing" magazines for different
printing-houses/papers; not contract-proofs, but just only to give an
approximate close enough color appearance (and to act as warning, if
something is going really south). I know laserprinters are not very
stable (very sensitive to humitidy and thermal movements), but
speedwise and for economical reasons they are now the only possibility
for this kind of work.
What about stability and calibration of different printer models; will
all be seen as CMYK-printers by BestRIP? Stability of the RIP software?
Speed depends naturally of the RIP-PC speed, but is it enough for high
volume printing (especially, when you drive a couple of printers with
one RIP)?
Any other possibilities (like Canon paired with Edox), user experiences?
Demands would be spectral caliblbration/linearization (hopefully with
eye1) and the possibility to have several freely configurated queues
(seen by users as virtual printers) with independend preferences
(also abs-color between pressprofile and printerprofile). The ability
to work on a Mac-server would be a bonus; no need to circulate great
amounts of data back and forth via windows server/RIP. The possibility
to drive more than one printer (other manufacturer/model) would be also
fine.
