changing profile white point

I have to modify the white point of a profile I have. I've got ProfileEditor 4.1.5 but the original profile was made in another program. I have two questions:

1) Will using my program to edit the profile cause a problem because it was originally made with another program? (I don't think so but I'm just checking).

2) Can someone provide instructions on how to edit the white point? Which direction, which rendering intent(s), what to select when I save the profile, etc. I've never used ProfileEditor or even edited a profile so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do.
