One good source is "Billmeyer and Saltzman's Principles of Color
Technology" Third Edition, by Roy S. Berns, ISBN 0-471-19459-X. It is in
print, thus easy to find on Amazon.com .

For the equations and their development history, "The Measurement of
Appearance", Second Edition, by R. S. Hunter and R. W. Harold, ISBN
0-471-83006-2. This one has been reprinted and I think it is currently available.
