Allow me to shamelessly plug my own company:
Digital Graphics
www.digitalgraphics.net (really poor web site)
401-467-7988
Now,
Let me say we offer Iris Giclees and ask some questions about giclees in
general.
Are the fine art prints being produced on Epsons considered "giclee" or
are only Iris giclees the "official" giclee?
And, are the Epson prints made on uncoated paper? Or do the prints made
on printers that use the micro-piezo technology require the coating to
make the ink stick?
By uncoated I don't mean the type of coating that makes paper have a
gloss or sheen, but the fine coating that makes the ink adhere.
In the case of the Iris giclee, it is truly uncoated. We use the same
fine art papers you would use for watercolor or printmaking.
The inks are another story. Iris inks are not pigmented. They are "UV
dyes." I explain their longevity as being similar to a color photograph.
Our HP 5000 is a pigmented ink but it can't print on the uncoated paper.
At least, not to our satisfaction.
We certainly get a wider color gamut if we put Sommerset Velvet Enhanced
on the Iris but to my understanding that paper is not considered
"archival" since it has a chemical coating on it.
For those using Iris printers, what rips are bing used? We just use
Photoshop to convert to CMYK which the Iris requires.
tia.
