NEC/Mitsubishi admitted at Photokina that they won't start any new
CRT manufacturing runs. There are still CRTs in their warehouse,
however.
My assumption is that LaCie will evolve into the existing and future
lines of NEC/Mitsubishi flat screens. A new wider gamut
NEC/Mitusbishi monitor is due out in 2005 (said to contain nearly
100% of the AdobeRGB gamut.) Count on saving your coins to splurge as
the cost could run in the range previously held by Barco monitors.
As new generation reference monitors, the 2 new flat screen options
from Eizo and NEC/Mitusbishi(add LaCie in that too?) will allow
color critical operations to obtain the very best soft proofing
possible. Please watch for the Eizo CG220 which offers AdobeRGB sized
gamut and 14 bit LUT support. 400:1 brightness ratio and 22.2 inch
diagonal screen to release fairly soon with a retail around EURO
5000, or in the range of $5500-$6250

Anyone saw the new LaCie monitor, maybe at some recent show, like Photokina?
I wonder how it work with calibration solutions that are not from LaCie...
