if that is the case, why does the gamut view of both profiles look so
different?

The ISOCoated profile, which also uses ISO12647-2 as the press standard,
from which the profile was generated from, has a much more even distribution
of colour than Euroscale Coated(v2)

For clarification, the FOGRA1 characterization is an older data set (1985) than the one used to create ECI's ISOCoated. I believe the latest ECI ISOCoated uses the FOGRA27 characterization.
