My question concerns data conversion from one dynamic range to another.
How does the look up table which has already assigned values for the GS 0 and
the GS 23 patches of the IT 8 target, file compression ( in the case of
perceptual) a separate algorithm which maps black and white to the
destination space, and finally the black point compensation, a function which
Adobe provides to prevent clipping of data beneath a device's maximum shadow
point, all work together without conflict or redundancy, or do they?
And finally, if one or all of these functions is operating properly, why are
we still obliged to manually target files to the maximum shadow and minimum
highlight points of the printer-ink-paper combination?
