Yes, the renaissance at Canon seems to be continuing apace. A real nice
printer. Further improvement in output quality, hifi inks and of course
with Canon's exceptional speed. Though I wish the printer OEMs marketing
departments in the various regions would reverse their recent tendency
to use different model numbers!

Any rips currently supporting it? or about to be released?
We have customers who want to support it and so in turn products
supporting it will come into the market. Unfortunately the business
relationship means I can't give you the details.

Of course what controls an end user gets depends on the product, but
generally I would expect you would treat it as RGB in non-PS drivers. In
a PS RIP you wouldn't want to separate from CMYK to CMYK + hifi ink so I
would expect it would be either RGB or 6-channel hifi (CMYKRG) with the
light ink separation handled by the RIP. Which way you go would depend
on the controls the RIP provides, what characterisation software you
have available and the quality of the internal RGB->n-channel separation
in the RIP.
In the case of our raster toolkit we characterised it as CMYKRG, with
our light ink separation unit handling the photo inks, with excellent
results.
