They haven't defined a tolerance as of yet (I'm told CGATS is working on
it, but it's a long way off). However, the premium press sheets used by
the participants of the IPA Proofing RoundUp had average delta E
readings of around 3 (max around 8) compared to the TR004 data (that's
average 1.85 and max 6.85 delta E 2000). These particular press sheets
also had an issue with the yellow TVI...TVI in the yellow was low in the
highlights and high in the shadows but correct at the 50% aim point. I
don't know if they have made another press run to correct this problem
yet or not.

Subject: Gracol DTR004
We have a need to create setups at both our Kodak & our Epson 9600 that
will match the Gracol TR004 spec. IPA sells 3 levels of the press kits
for use in matching to the spec. I believe that if you are going to go
down this road you should do it right and purchase the Premium Kit for
$950 where the press sheets are spectrophotometrically certified for
accuracy to the TR004 spec.
I am having a hard time trying to convince upper management that the
jump in price from the Elite kit to the Premium kit of $725 is well
worth it. From what I understand, the Elite Kit is measured with a
densitometer, and if the densities match the Gracol spec it is
considered a good press sheet to distribute. Within the Premium Kit the
IT8 targets on the press sheets are measured with a spectrophotometer
and verified that the IT8 matches the Gracol spec (though I haven't
found/read what that tolerance is).
So, can anyone help me in defining& justifying why we should spend the
extra $725?
Thanks in advance,
Brian Binotto
