Marco,
The rub is that when you place a group of 8 bit and 16 bit images side by
side experts or novices cant clearly see a difference. There is
overwhelming evidence that illustrates this.
And when you ask the 16 bit advocate to show you hard evidence (other than
a histogram) that 16 bit is better, they cant do it.
So to put it in simple terms again: If there is a difference that 16 bit
images reproduce better because they have more" head room" for editing,
then show me ( or whoever else is interested).
Sounds like a reasonable request.
So far no one of the 16 bit side has been able to do that.
Let me reiterate.
If you show me (or people like me) the difference between 8 or 16 bit
images that have been edited, using some type of practical test method
that makes it clear there are distinguishable difference when those 8 or
16 bit images are printed, I am willing to change my current point of view
based on that hard evidence.
Would you be willing to change your mind if the hard evidence was
overwhelming that there are no distinguishable differences between 8 and 16
bit images?
Jim Rich
