I am sorry to disagree Nathan, but I this is not the case.
There are commercial printers and publication printers and yellow pages
printers who are using stochastic. They are doing so because it saves
money and they know how to do process control and color management.
They know how to do printing as a manufacturing process rather than
high craft and art. They are using CTP and inkjet proofing.
Stochastic gives less variation on press and means a smoother more
consistent press run. Don't tell any of the customers, but it saves
ink. If it is done properly it does not cost one penny more.
There are a number of places where it saves money.
No moirÈ, no extra press runs to correct this.
Less ink for the same visual density.

Why not switch to stochastic printing and wider gamut
inks? Then you will be using the best proofing system
that simulates stochastic printing. You will also be
giving your customers a printing system that has more
color gamut, resolution, less variance and does not
create moire patterns. They will also be saving
significant dollars on proofing consumables.
Because the expense is completely unjustifiable for a great many, if not
most printing projects.
