You may be going about doing this the hard way. With the tendency of these
machines to "wander' a bit means you need to have an easy way to pull them
back in.
At the agency where I work we have 2 canons, an 1140 and a 2400. The 1140
runs a DocStram RIP and the 2400 runs an Edox RIP. Both of these printers
are used for printing comps etc. for client presentations and the like.
We color manage these using the built in "Auto Gradation Adjust" calibration
along with profiles I periodically make for each of them. The profiles are
made with my EyeOne and EyeOne Match (vers 3).
As long as we run the auto grad calibration every morning (and sometimes in
the afternoon too) the profiles seem to work quite well for months at a
time. The variable that has the greatest effect on this is whatever
maintenance has been done on the copier in the meantime.
Color management of the printing is handled at the application level by
using PhotoShop's, Quark's or Acrobat's built-in tools.
