For those of you who are interested, here are some results from an iterative
profiling session with PrintOpen v5.1 I just gone through tonight.
The Reference Profile is a Matchprint laminate proof. Target is ECI2002v.
The Matchprint was measured with a Spectroscan XY table, no filter.
The Destination Profile is an Epson 4000 with Ultrachrome inks. Target is
also ECI2002 but formatted for reading with an Icolor (looking forward to a
DTP70 soon...).
Both Reference and Destination profiles were generated with PO5. Spectral
measurements were use in each instances.
The iterative Proof Correction feature of PO5 is based on an AbsCol
transform between the Reference (Source) and the Destination profile
(Proofer).
A = Uncorrected profile
B = Profile corrected after 1st iteration
C = Profile corrected after 2nd iteration
All results are expressed in DeltaEab.
Avg SDev Max W K C M Y R G B
----- ----- ---- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ---
A 1.99 1.20 7.89 1.69 2.34 2.21 1.45 1.41 1.97 4.44 3.21
B 1.22 0.83 7.57 0.87 2.18 2.03 0.62 1.94 0.72 2.13 1.20
C 1.06 0.80 7.65 0.97 1.70 1.49 0.89 1.51 0.42 0.43 1.86
It's plain to see from the above that iterative Proof Correction was
beneficial in improving the colorimetric accuracy of this proofing system.
Further gains could / should come from better linearization of my 4000 (I
know it needs work) and smoothing of the Reference data (which is already
very smooth to begin with, but still). And some extra repeatability on the
part of the printer who has shown, lately, some annoying drift from prints
to prints (this is a new machine I have, been barely used, I know, hope the
new 4800 are better).
All in all, I'm sure it beats a lot of dot proofers out there for proofing
accuracy.
