Color in a controlled environment is going to yield a very close match to a
conventional prepress proof. Whether or not it is a match to press for
either technology is a variable that opens another topic.
While I agree that an inkjet can match colorimetrically clients typically
look at the prepress proofs in less than ideal situations and with much less
rigor than those trying to control precisely the output.
There are still issues with surface qualities and color constancy with
pigment inks that when put into clients hands still lend a better viewing
experience with traditional prepress proofs.
