Hard to say. What is most important to me hinges around color "fidelity",
tone reproduction and neutrality. Robert Hunt has written extensively about
image quality. In his now classical treatment "The Reproduction of Colour"
book, on page 71, 5th Edition (I don't have the latest edition by Wiley), he
writes:
Successful colour reproduction requirements are, in order of importance:
- (1) Correctness of hue;
- (2) Correctness of lightness (tone reproduction);
- (3) Colourfulnesses proportional to those in the original;
- (4) Colourfulnesses and brightnesses similar to those in the original.
I believe these four basic tenets remain valid no matter what the
reproduction technology.
