Hi Daniel-
The "received wisdom" I was quoting says that the 4000 and higher printers
have a separate loop (I don't know the technical term for it) that keeps the
ink flow constant. The 1*** and 2*** series printers don't have this
(according to this account), and that is what makes the more expensive
printers more stable.
Any thoughts on this?
On the other hand, regardless of what printer you have, you need good
profiles (at least) and/or a good rip to get you great color. If you are
only going to print on a few papers, then using the Epson driver and custom
profiles is the cheapest way to go. If you are going to print on many papers
from different manufacturers, then investing in a rip that supports your
printer and paper combinations will be the best in the long run.
