My question is concerning 16 -8 bit convertion:
When should i convert the file in 8 bit ? in RGB or CMYK ?
_ RGB-16 => CMYK-16 => CMYK-8

_ or can i leave it in CMYK 16 bits ?
Does that make any difference ?
IF the image is within a range in density and tone of the output device little compression needs to be done , so 8 bit is not going to show any differences on printed output when using relative rendering. With current ICC renderings through perceptual there is always some compression of colours , yet with recent profiling applications this is pretty slight compared to the differences between Rel and Perc with older profiles.
I would say if you had significant curves or edits to apply to an image after the conversion it’s best to use 16 bit and keep the image in high bit . If it’s merely conversion for a standard proofer 8 bit is all that is needed. Some plate setter rips if they encounter a 16 bit image will choke, yet most are set to reject profiles in any case. The profiles are usually indicators for proofing, the plate setter curves are created to mimmick output compared to proof.
