It is the case actually, i take care of that ...
But it makes me think that, in Photoshop, soft-proofing a 16 bit RGB image shows you a CMYK in 16 bits no ?
So it could be dangerous ...
Is there a way to soft-proof in 8 bits CMYK from a16 bits RGB ?
Is that a stupid question ?
Again you have indicators such as the histogram that shows you a simulation of the file. I’m not a firm believer that histograms are a tell all meter though. You may see holes in the histogram that if you really want to compare you duplicate the image and perform the conversion on both the 8 bit and the 16 bit.
What you see onscreen unfortunately is scaled relative colorimetric to monitor profile at 8 bit output so you won’t see much difference.
I didn’t want to say that using the default Fogra 27 profiles in CS2 would be a closer match for unspecified offset output as judging by so many publications here , if they give you nothing to go on Fogra, or any other standard isn’t going to give you much in the way of security on their side. On your side yes, if you use Fogra 27 you should have a better chance that you know it’s a correct file for press. Colour matching by a publication that is closed loop and they have no standards will show large deviations so no way to have a close simuli in that case.
