An abstract mathematical model derived from empirical observations, I
believe. As such, its relationship to reality is not perfect, and certainly
not to be taken literally.

That's why color science has so many ways to describe color perception in
humans (so many different -- and at times very abstruse-sounding -- color
models), because each of them has both its pluses and its problems under
different conditions.

That's my understanding of it do far.

Regards.
