Marco,
Did you compare the 2 profiles in Colothink using a color list (it
can be the actual measurements) and looking at delta-e vectors ? This
view is fantastic to compare two profiles made with the same data set.

Lorenzo

Hi Daniel.
I have not done much with it, except rebuild a profile or two that I had
already made earlier with PM 5.0.4, using the same measurement data.
(I have not yet printed and measured the reformulated test charts: that will
have to wait a bit longer.)
Using these 2 profile sets (PM 5.0.4 vs. 5.0.5) to convert a Granger's
Rainbow from Lab, it seems that there is less dirtiness in the dark
yellow-oranges and less splotchiness in the greens and blues, when using
either Colorful or ChromaPlus Gamut Mapping options in PM 5.0.5.
The Classic mode has not improved much, though, at least judging from this
Granger's Rainbow exercise. Classic in 5.0.5 actually seems to make things
worse (more splotchiness, and more or less same "dirtiness" in the dark
yellow-oranges).
Looking at the profiles in ColorThink (three sets of profiles. two for each
Gamut Mapping option, one from PM 5.0.4, the other from 5.0.5), there
appears to be no difference in total gamut or overall shape.
When I inspect the profiles in ColorShop X, though (Profile Viewer -> 2D
Graph Type -> Display), the profiles made with 5.0.5 appear to have more
evenly-spaced steps in the [-A*, -B*] quadrant (the one comprising
green-blue colors), visibly so when compared to their 5.0.4 equivalents.
I'm not sure what this all means, though. I am eager to hear the opinion of
people more knowledgeable than myself in the ColorSync forum.
Best regards.
