To be honest I read again the initial post and I am not sure how this would apply to “offset printing” per se, but if you need a way to profile the luminance axis response of a printer and generate a greyscale ICC profile to which a document would be converted prior to printing then this could be very helpful. If the printing workflow requires an RGB image then Roy has an RGB version (each channel is the same) in beta. We use this to profile any B&W printing workflow: Quads, Epson Adv B&W, Black Only printing etc. Print a step wedge, measure it with GM MeasureTool, drag the MeasureTool output file onto the QTR Create ICC application icon and it generates a single intent ICC profile based on media white point relativity and black point compensation a la Adobe. Hope this is helpful in some way.

Or use a greyscale ICC profile made from measuring a step wedge with QTR Create ICC.
Any links?
