[This may all be a bit technical I guess, if you aren't familiar enough
with color science ...]
Well, it was a very technical question! I don't think the author
realized just how much is involved in the answer. Based on the original
question, I would also recommend looking at not only technical papers
as mentioned, but also basic color science references, such as
"Principles of Color Technology, 3rd ed." by Roy S. Berns. I believe it
is necessary to understand the fundamentals before much of what will be
found in many of these papers will make sense and this book is a very
good introduction to the concepts at hand.
It might also be useful to look into not just color science, but
imaging science as well. One very good such reference is the "Digital
Color Imaging Handbook" edited by Gaurav Sharma. It covers topics such
as Color Fundamentals for Digital Imaging, Color Management for Digital
Imaging Systems, Color Quantization, and Efficient Color Transformation
Implementation.
That being said, I think this question is actually a bit off-topic for
this list and should probably be continued elsewhere, perhaps on a
programming, imaging science, or color science list.
