I was comparing some profiles created by different software
packages when I noticed this...I converted a
Granger Rainbow from Adobe RGB to CMYK using a profile created from GMB Profile
Maker 5.0.2. Using a perceptual rendering intent, I don't notice anything unsual
in the conversion. Obviously the color shifts and there's some banding, but this
is to be expected. Using the relative colorimetric intent (with or without bpc)
the saturated blues convert very strangley...becoming very light in the center
of the blue area. I've tried several GMB profiles with similar results using
rel. colorimetric. Anyone else notice this? I can't say that I've noticed
this behavior on many live jobs, but I have had some strange problems converting
images with a lot of saturated blue in them before. Using profiles created from Monaco Profiler and PerfX, I don't see this
behavior...maybe some purplish blues, but nothing like this.
BTW...the PerfX profile I have (a CMYK
profile sample from TGLC) doesn't show anything abnormal in its behavior,
and although I haven't thoroughly tested it out, it appears comparable to Gretag
and Monaco profiles.
