custom profiles for HP 1700PS

Hi,
I am trying to improve the color output on this printer.
Has anyone had success in profiling an HP 1700PS printer?
IF so, what driver settings did you use when printing out a chart and where
are the custom profiles applied? This postscript driver is hardwired to only allow
press simulations such as swop and euro etc., Without at least choosing one of the
simulations, ( in HP language, " color correction off") there is no ink limiting, so the paper
is soaked. These simulation choices in HP speak are also referred to as "input profiles".
The supplied output profiles for various HP papers are also hardwired into the postscript driver
with apparently no way to add or alter them . They are applied "automatically" when choosing the HP paper
and Quality setting.
Regards,
Martin Paul
