I wonder
what the value of using "Large" or 16-bit profiles in the first place? When
everything will be dumbed down to 8 bit with the possible artifacts I
discussed above. Does an 8 bit profile by design offers less grid points?
Bit depth (mathematical precision of gridpoints, not measured precision of gridpoints) and profile detail (number of gridpoints) are seperate issues, and the number of gridpoints in the profile may not directly reflect the number of measured points used to build the profile, another potential source of confusion.
