- Thread-topic: Feedback on solution for in-house print shop
I'm looking for input (good, bad or ugly) on 3 different options I'm
exploring for profiling the equipment of our small in-house print shop.
Brief background: we do short run colour laser for a university; max
print run of about 400 at a shot; 2 different printers used for most
jobs - a Canon Color ImageRunner C3220 and a Minolta DialtaColor CF 2002
- with very different color out of each (both machines driven by Fiery
RIPs). Most jobs are sent from Adobe InDesign CS.
I need to procure a colour management solution for a)
calibrating/profiling all our monitors (6-7 users, site license?), b)
profiling our colour lasers (yes, I'm aware this will be an annoying and
tedious process as the environmental factors can cause a lot of
shifting, but where we are and where the machines are located, we don't
get enough variation in output to sour the deal), c) getting the two
different machines to have more similar colour output, and finally, d)
it would be gravy (but not critical) if the package we chose could
profile our scanners (and projectors).
The three packages currently in contention are:
A) ColorVision SpectroPRO2 Suite
B) GMB EyeOne Proof
C) X-Rite Pulse Elite RGB + CMYK (their bundling model seems very
complicated - I found it tough to figure out the exact pricing on the
bits & pieces I need)
So far, based on marketing bumph, the ColorVision package seems the
least expensive and the most flexible - but I am concerned about
complexity.
I would really appreciate any input anyone has on the features,
usability, hidden gotchas, etc., especially relating to profiling colour
laser printers with Fiery RIPs. Also, if anyone feels I've overlooked an
obvious choice, please let me know. On- or off-list
Many thanks,
