Marci,
If you need ammunition for the switch, you can talk about visual experience
dependant neural plasticity...essential live life in an anomalous light
environment for an extended period and your brain will adjust the
sensitivity of your red-green neural circuits to compensate and restore
normal perception. It works similarly to adjusting gain in audio recording.
The problem here is that your circuits don't immediately pop back in line
when you return to good light (can take weeks). So your art dept staff's
perception could be in a slightly altered state when you are at the viewing
booth. For this reason I believe that it important for color professionals
to care about the light they spend their time in even when they are not
approving color. It makes a difference.
That's the short version anyway.
Regards,
Daniel S. Westcott
