It's about application support. While both OS's will let you specify a
display profile for each display (except dual-headed cards on XP), only
certain applications are specifically made to be aware of more than one
display and to perform display compensation. One would think this could
be more elegantly handled by the operating system itself so long as the
application reports the source space for the contents of a window - but
so far that hasn't been my experience with the exception of Photoshop.
There may be other apps that support multiple displays.
