Hi all,
I think I need to invest in an OSX (Tiger)-friendly color management
package now that I have received my new G5. I don't need a monitor
calibrator, but need to make excellent inkjet profiles for 3rd party
inks (anyone tried the Pantone inks yet?) and substrates (paper and
canvas).
My price range appears to limit me to something like the XRite Pulse
ColorElite System, sans colorimeter for monitor.
Does anyone advise me against this direction? I'd rather spend less,
of course, and simply can't afford more. I've been using an OS9/
Classic-only Colorblind Matchbox package from quite a few years ago,
although I kept up with software updates. I have never been happy
with the results of that $1000 item, much to my dismay.
I am presently attempting to keep pigment inks flowing regularly
through an Epson 9000 (using 9500 dampers) and also using OEM inks in
my 2200, which rarely needs a profile even for 3rd party papers I've
tried. I am not a supercritical techie, just a photographer,
retoucher, painter with a fairly good grasp of the issues in color
management.
I also have one presumably idiotic question (I am fairly new to OSX)
that I seem to be finding no answer to: I can't find where to turn
off color management when printing to the 9000, since there is no
Epson driver (they don't support it -- I am using the Apple-supplied
GIMP Print for now). I would love to own ImagePrint or another good
Mac RIP, but just can't handle the $$. What am I missing re turning
off CM in Tiger?
TIA,
Gary Barnett
